Gave up and turned the furnace back on for a bit. I'd like to get the temperature in here back up in the 60s.

No one else in my neighborhood has caved yet, but I'm going to drag out the big extension cord and plug in my mower this weekend. NWS says it might be ~70F and sunny on Saturday, so I'm gonna go for it.

Along with the 2 cats, my sister donated a used cat-tree she'd picked up via Facebook. I got rid of all my plants and shoved it in the front window.

I screwed on a 3'x4" scrap of lumber to keep it from wobbling. Last summer I wrapped that in jute.

It held up until the end of winter. My second attempt has involved sisal rope, a wood glue/hot glue combo, clamps, and many, many hours. We'll see how long it lasts.

I took pictures of the display this morning.

Trip north today, but I forgot to grab the Garmin. Naturally I got lost.

Marquette has traffic circles, and I. can. not. deal. While I was sighing over my map in a parking lot, I decided to try Google navigation. After some poking around, it talked me through those damn circles. I am filled with gratitude. 😭

(So windy today. The car door blew shut on my finger. I didn't really notice it until I'd smeared blood all over my map. Yikes.)

The Lenovo is a 64-bit Win7 Home Premium machine with 650GB storage -- and only 4GB RAM.

It was fine back in the day, but it has issues running more than 3 modern programs at once. When stuff in the background kicks in (antivirus, Win update, ...), everything craaawls. And it hates Waterfox and Thunderbird.

Meanwhile ....
Me: So how about Win10?
Win10 installer: No.
Me: Oh.

Guess the Lenovo is too old.

My mom's desktop is running Win7 Home Premium, 32-bit, 8GB RAM. It was custom built for her by one of my brothers and has a second, older hard drive slaved inside it (from her previous machine).

I spent my weekend solving its myriad Win10 upgrade error codes, but I'm stuck on the fourth one. My brother suggested unplugging that second drive to see if that clears it.

It's the only machine that can handle my email client, so ... that big experiment must wait.

So the Dell laptop tossed out a final BSOD and went belly up. So far it's shrugged off all efforts to resurrect it.

So I blew the dust off a couple of Windows 7 machines -- my mom's desktop, which I inherited (literal dust), and my original Lenovo laptop (ca. 2011) -- spent the weekend installing Win7 updates and poking at various other things.

They both have individual issues that make using them a bit challenging. So I'm hopping back and forth between them for now. Sigh.

So the past two weeks have had dentistry, car towing and repair, a handful of store trips (stain/poly, potatoes, windshield wipers, etc.). Tomorrow I'm walking to the drugstore to get boostered.

All this has involved far more live interactions with humans than I've had in years. It's good that it's all been glommed together like this. I've had no time to properly dwell on the situation and wallow in anxiety, as I am wont to do. 🙄

Back from dental trip no. 3 (clean teeth); next visit is February and replacement crown.

With cracked crown cutting my tongue, I walked to / called my way down a list of dentists trying to find someone taking new patients, who'd see me before 2024.

This practice was a fair ways down that list, but saw me the same day, made the additional appts in same month, and is even recognized by my worthless insurance.

It's all been weirdly pleasant.

I'm not normally this lucky. #KnockOnWood
