There are three main timelines on here:

🏠 Home - Posts from people you follow, plus posts featuring hashtags you follow

👥 Local - Public posts from people on your server

🌎 Federated - Public posts from people on any server

On the official Mastodon app, Local is known as "Community" and can be accessed by clicking the magnifying glass 🔍 and scrolling across to the Community tab.

There are no algorithms hiding or moving stuff. You see all the posts for each feed in chronological order.

1) your FOLLOWERS do! ✅

2) people on YOUR INSTANCE/server do (that's the place where you signed up at). ✅

3) people on FOLLOWERS INSTANCE/server can get to see your post. ✅

4) if someone BOOSTS your post, then EVERYONE on their instance/server will get another chance to see your post! ✅✅

5) NOBODY ELSE will get to see your post! ❌

To all Mastodon-admins: seems like there's an attack on all instances by troll accounts. Servers get slow because of it.
They use thousands of subdomains of activitypub-troll.cf. My 'pull' queues skyrocketed.

I now blocked the domain activitypub-troll.cf and all is back to normal. Please check if you're hit too.

Do you know someone who is on here but you can't find their account by searching?

Try exchanging account addresses with them, the same way you would exchange phone numbers. This is the most reliable method for finding someone on here.

Your account address is on your profile page, and you can paste other people's addresses into the search box to make their accounts appear. You can then just click follow on their profile page.
