Just another philosophy major turned web developer šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø my interests are #PhilosophyOfScience, #WebAnimation, and #epistemology. I used to be #mormon, and once helped run an underground support group for #exmormon students at Brigham Young University.

BREAKING: #Florida just approved new Black history standards that includes noting enslaved people developed skills that ā€œcould be applied for their personal benefitā€

Somehow, my parents see no issue the fact that my brother on a #mormon mission is able to access Google *because he holds a special position* 🤯🤯🤯

Hm. I don’t want to dunk on this, because I don’t disagree that we have / will be able to figure out the technological means by which the climate crisis can be solved. But fundamentally, it’s less a question of human ingenuity - it’s about political will.
I’m skeptical of perspectives that de-politicize the challenge. The actual question is whether or not we can mobilize enough pressure to overcome the political forces (and the interests they serve) that are standing in the way of answers that are commensurate with the problem.
Why Extreme Heat Is So Deadly

Summer heat is increasingly breaking records as the climate warms. As we describe in our roundup, heat can be deadly. Make sure that you take extra precautions to stay cool

Scientific American
Instead, it should be used as a method of improving present arguments by looking at the successes and mistakes of past arguments.

I’ve noticed that some people think academic #philosophy is bad to read or engage with because they deem something they’ve read as incorrect. This distaste for incorrectness comes from the misconception that #AcademicPhilosophy is instructive not constructive—that the reader should merely accept the conclusions of a work rather than engage with the arguments’ validity or soundness.

dunking on elon does well on every platform, and i think that is beautiful.

I won't be creating an account on #Threads because I deactivated my Facebook and Instagram accounts years ago because:
- Cambridge Analytica
- Myanmar genocide
- Long history of incitement of hate and disinformation for profit
- Helping Fox News drive senior citizens into conspiracy-theory madness

I have no objection (yet) to federating with Threads or following people there. I just refuse to look at their ads or follow their algorithm.

@dansup @pixelfed can we please make this something standard instead of mastodon api? we could use oidc and/or indieauth. the onus should be on mastodon to support those standards too
