Have you heard of @danb's https://isitreallyfoss.com/ ?
It evaluates if software is truly Free and Open Source - not just in license, but in practice. It checks for proprietary dependencies, build transparency, and whether users can actually compile from source.
This matters because true software freedom means you can run, study, modify, and distribute without barriers.
Castopod isn't listed yet, so we've opened an issue: https://codeberg.org/danb/isitreallyfoss/issues/132

Does anyone know if there a standard header that can/should be used to determine when an RSS feed was last updated?

Some feeds have a last-modified header, but many others do not. Feeds hosted by Buzzsprout, for example, do not appear to have a last-modified or any obvious header to show when the feed was last updated.

Anytime does everything on device, so using a HEAD request to check if a feed has been updated recently would be a way to save battery and bandwidth. Thanks ๐Ÿ™‚

If you've not yet had enough of NotebookLM style podcasts, take a look at https://www.gitpodcast.com

Provide it a Git repo and it will generate a podcast episode all about the project and code.

I like the web ui of this tool. The output is - different, though the wooden speaking style of the technical expert is a lot like me!

@james Hi James. One very minor issue with the Podnews RSS feed. You have a recurring 'ALSO TRY' episode, but the image link is broken. It points to an asset on BuzzSprout, but when you try to access it you get an access denied.

Doesn't stop you playing the episode, but just results in a broken image in a player.

@russell Hi Russell. I was listening to your New 2 Pod episode with Sam and see that the main enclosure is an MP4 with the audio as an alternate. Is this going to be a video-first podcast for all episodes? Just interested.
