Tonight's East Bay Stonewall Democrats event featured discussions with local elected leaders and government staff on how cities, school boards, and our county government are working to protect LGBTQ communities in Alameda County.

East Bay local governments are:
- Funding the Lakeshore LGBTQ District, healthcare services, housing, families, and other affirming services.
- Publicly reassuring parents of trans kids at board meetings that "we hold the line" and aren't going to roll back protections.
- Working closely with healthcare providers to respond to federal changes.
- Building all-gender restrooms.

Representation matters, both in elected office and in hiring and appointments - LGBTQ staff talked about being the go-to person to advise elected officials on decision making.

In the parade today we had Lion Dance Me, GAPA, Juicy, Liu, Health Initiatives for Youth (HIFY), LYRIC Center for LGBTQQ+ Youth, Free Mom Hugs, and many community members.
This was the first year the event had a procession through the neighborhood - a walk through Chinatown history and the present day, starting from Edge on the Square and going down Grant Avenue, to the old telephone exchange, to 41 Ross, the I-Hotel, and ending at the bridge on Portsmouth Square.

The cherry blossom trees at UC Berkeley are in full bloom! The trees were planted in 2013 to honor Cal grads of Japanese ancestry - learn more at https://perkmob.wixsite.com/cherrytreeproject-v6

Also going on right now, the Berkeley Historical Society has an exhibit, "Roots, Removal and Resistance: Japanese Americans in Berkeley". It's downtown and well worth a visit. https://berkhistory.org/2024/08/23/roots-removal-and-resistance-japanese-americans-in-berkeley/

A discussion at tonight's Asian Pacific American Democratic Caucus of Alameda County meeting was how even in places where ICE hasn't raided, the fear has impacts.

To separate fact from rumor, Alameda County has a hotline, 510-241-4011, to confirm if there is a raid or to report one. https://www.acilep.org/

#Oakland Mayor Election latest update: With 49,042 ballots processed & tallied, Loren Taylor is ahead by 1,118 votes so far, Barbara Lee is gaining as more ballots are processed.

County reports about 42,000 more ballots left to count, plus some more as ballots in California can be mailed on Election Day and will still be counted if received in a week.

The first batch of ballots on Tuesday evening were the 44,796 early votes, with Loren Taylor was ahead of Barbara Lee by about 1,800 votes.

After 2nd batch, which was 4,246 election day ballots, were counted Tuesday night, the gap closed to the current 1,118. Based on that, Barbara Lee won about 58% of the election day votes.

We don't know which ballots are left to count, however, Alameda County sees a progressive shift every election as ballots are counted. People who vote later get their ballots counted later, and are more likely to be younger, left-leaning, etc.

Too close to call, but looks good for the Lee campaign. Next update is scheduled for Friday.

With almost all the votes counted, Barbara Lee wins the #Oakland mayor election!
@alfredtwu
Stupid question
Is single family meant to be one residence per lot.
If so, my block in Glenview is labeled single family, but has many 2-3 residence lots, with a few apartments in the neighborhood.
When I bought in 1986, there were only two of with ADUs, though it was zoned for multi

@kevindalley yes, single family = 1 house per lot (ADUs don't count).

Many places in California have been downzoned in the mid-20th century, so even if its a single family zone now, there may be older apartments built before the downzone.

@alfredtwu
Thanks. Much of lower Glenview zoning is confusing to me.
RM-3 is common near Park Blvd.
RM-2 near MacArthur
RD is a big chunk in triangle between Park Blvd and MacArthur toward Squeal Creek, with individual lots having some allowing 2,3 or 4 single family homes
4 units abound
And the signs areca mix of Lee and Taylor
