My #Mastodon server ran out of disk space (again...). Of course, you can add storage -- but I've found a better way.

Configure a swap file in case you need it for swapping. But also for emergency use.

Just swapoff, delete the swap file, then run tootctl to clean up, then new swap file and then swapon. But be sure to edit fstab to comment out swap file if you need to reboot.

Afterwards, reverse the steps.

Voila! No need to extend/add/resize partitions.

From the "I'm old enough to remember physical typewriter-style terminals -- before even VT100s" file: if you wanted to stop scrolling from rapid terminal output, you sent #ASCII XON and XOFF to stop and start the output.

These live on today, I kid you not, in #macOS Terminal as Ctrl-S and Ctrl-X.
