Another episode of Volts with an interesting technology: using "molten oxide electrolysis” to make carbon (emission)-free steel.

But what's interesting about the technology, above and beyond that, is that it can work on low quality ore/mine waste (bonus #1) and its byproduct is blocks of stable material, rather than dangerous waste (bonus #2), so it serves environmental cleanup. And the process is smaller & much more modular, so it's more portable and scalable, too.

Michigan folks - it is once again BICYCLE BALLOT TIME!

Michigan has many voting options (thanks, Promote The Vote!), but I'd strongly encourage y'all to get an absentee ballot and vote ASAP, for all the reasons that Mark Maynard explains here: https://www.reddit.com/r/AnnArbor/comments/1fn9w6m/washtenaw_dems_consider_voting_by_mail/ (🧵)

Washtenaw County Democratic Party endorsements on Ann Arbor City proposals:

FOR Proposal A: Sustainable Energy Utility
FOR Proposal B: Parks millage renewal

AGAINST Proposal C: Nonpartisan elections
AGAINST Proposal D: Public campaign funding

Expose | After backroom legume shenanigans, Washtenaw Dems used their noodles to vote on endorsements for local races. Proving yet again, where there's a Wilk* there's a way. #a2council #a2schoolboard

I’ve heard a number of complaints about difficulty sourcing appropriate paper compostable bags in Ann Arbor.

I’ve noticed that Bergen has a similar policy of forbidding “compostable plastic” bags in an effort to keep microplastics out of the compost stream. However, the city sources appropriate bags for residents, and makes them available for free at grocery stores. The cost is covered by residents’ solid waste fee.

Perhaps a solution #A2Council should consider.
