@duke_of_germany My solution for running software from that era would be running it on windows 2000 in virtualbox.
@CA_Hawthorne @crcollins Their faq states they support U2F and TOTP, meaning that you can use a hardware (usb) key or an authentication app for the second factor.

@jon In the words of my mother: vivaldi is too messy out of the box.

That, together with the pain one has to go through if one wants to remove all the "big tech" style ads and disable the associated trickery, makes it really hard to recommend.

@kjhank @vosje62 @jon @Vivaldi Closed source apps are, of course, a no-no in the f-droid repo. The F-droid app, however, does have a handy option to add custom repo's.

Definitely would prefer adding a "Vivaldi repository" to the f-droid app over touching the play store.

@nixCraft 'Tis a nice decoy for the inconvenient truth that firefox has, for years now, been making billions by throwing the userbase in front of the wolves.

@futurebird Not to mention all the cases where opposing answers could very well be reasonable.

Would not that even be very likely to happen often? Otherwise, why is a user asking the questions in the first place?

Example: suppose I want to check whether a museum is open on a certain day, and google's "ai overview" helpfully provides an answer. How could this policy of expectations filter out an error without truly checking the source material?

@mimblewimble @NilaJones @jon That is definitively not how Vivaldi should behave. On my devices, I type in the search terms and the browser sends them to the search engine.

Maybe send in a bug report via the "share feedback" option in the settings?

@NilaJones Newest version of vivaldi (android) supports adding custom search engine: long press the search field on the search engine's website. Helpfully will include the option to set it as default in one go.

@jon @Vivaldi Make sure to set noai.duckduckgo.com as the default search engine.

And don't forget to disable all the fake intelligence's bovine droppings you may be treated to by the os.

@jimbob Having just cleaned up my mother's brand new samsung tablet, I was extremely impressed that samsung managed to include gemini, galaxy fi, and copilot for me to disable.

There should be a special place in the afterlife for those ceo's, where they are obliged use their own company's products as they come out of the box.
