My code was deployed on #Wikipedia! You can now type #Cherokee using Wikipedia's input tools. This is a transliteration style keyboard, so typing "tsalagi" turns into "ᏣᎳᎩ" which can be easier to use because it doesn't require memorizing a new keyboard layout. #indigenous #LanguageRevitalization #linguistics

"This decision is a significant win for the #autism community and #disability community at large. Not only does it reaffirm first principles in disability rights law, but more importantly, the decision sets a strong precedent for serious consequences for discrimination on the basis of disability in the service context."

Because of segration, #BlackDeaf people developed their own distinctive version of American Sign Language. Here's a page on #BlackASL and #BlackDeafHistory made by CSDHH in Greensboro, NC (where so much other #CivilRights activity has happened!) for #BlackHistoryMonth in 2021: http://www.csdhh.org/black-asl. Definitely worth circulating every year!

Charles Henry Turner was a pioneer in entomology - and he couldn't get a job in higher ed, so he taught high school biology.

"Across his distinguished 33-year career, Turner authored 71 papers and was the first African American to have his research published in the prestigious journal Science."

His simple but elegant experiments in public parks revolutionized understanding of bees.

Why do white Americans learn about the dozens of wealthy Black towns that were destroyed by racism, from:
* Fictional TV shows made by HBO
* Black women comedians (Amber Ruffin)
* Random Black dudes that post on the internet 🙋🏿‍♂️

Instead of from their history text books?

Again folks will ask "Why was I not taught this in school?" And again, I will say, "You know why." Look at what DeSantis is doing. Look at what the Texas Board of Education has always done.

Elijah McCoy was born in 1844 in Ontario to formerly-enslaved parents from Kentucky. They saved enough to send him to Scotland to study mechanical #engineering. When he returned and couldn't get work in his field, he took a job as a train oilman and invented a method of automatic lubrication that eliminated the frequent stops trains had to make to oil up axles & bearings. Railroad companies asking for his product rather than copycat devices spawned the phrase "the real McCoy." #BlackHistoryMonth
My daughter has started actively disliking the singing and dancing parts on The Wiggles, she only wants the talking bits. We have now switched to an educational channel on YouTube. Any other parents experience that sort of thing with autistic kids? I really feel like she’s turning into mini me.
