Working on a first novel - YA Fantasy romance about nerdy elves.

Update: This first video got 700 views which I think is pretty good.
People say that tiktok sells books, but it frightens me. I decided to post my first video this morning before an 8:30 work meeting so I wouldn't think too hard about it. #yaFantasy #creativity #amwriting #bookmarketing #writers

Hi! I'm Jun Qi aka JQ, an illustrator and English-Mandarin bilingual storyteller from Singapore.

I'm working on some of my own books and am still trying to break into the children's book industry, so in the meantime I get by on savings from my past life as a full-time software dev & consultant, + part-time work as a software dev/architect.

The painting is me and some of my art from the past year. Nice to be part of a growing #KidLit community here!

#HourADay #dailyartchallenge #MastoArt #watercolour #watercolour #painting This is my painting for today. I used my number 18 brush and just a few colors: Ultramarine Blue, Phthalo Blue GS, Quin Gold, Burnt Sienna, and Payne’s Grey.

Thank you for all of your kind support here on Mastodon. I still don't know how to navigate these waters.

This is a mixed-media layered painting, mostly acrylic. It took me quite a few layers to end up with a quieter painting. I'm always trying to find a way to bring color to a softer pallet.

All newbies here need to keep in mind something I was just reminded about again today in a separate convo: the Mastodon Fediverse thrives on follows/boosts, it’s how the separate instances make connections so individual users can peel the complex onion of interrelationships between all the separate nodes.

In other words: there is A LOT you cannot see when you get started and those follows/boosts help reveal it, slowly but surely… #AlgorithmFreeLifestyle

This week I am working on updating my website to include my spring novel releases and I want to reengage my creativity newsletter. Here's the elf book website page I've been working on: https://addingcolortolife.com/?page_id=456
