👉 Three exciting days of catalysis research: The 59. annual meeting of the German Catalysis Society im Weimar has come to an end.

🤝 We have seen great talks and lectures. Also results from our group have been presented in various formats with a lot of discussions, mingling and collaborative spirit in a lively community.

📷 The photos show Michael and Jihao from our group, former group member Benjamin (now at UDE) und our collaboration partner Nick from Hamburg University.

👏 Thanks to all, who have presented and contributed!

🎉 Looking forward to the 60th anniversary next year!

Why can't we just reverse the Haber-Bosch process?

In the latest episode, I talk to Prof. Malte Behrens @SolidStateChemCatal_Kiel about ammonia as a possible hydrogen carrier.

We dive deep into the chemistry of ammonia cracking and explain why the classic iron catalyst loses its activity. Find out how alloying iron with cobalt might just be the solution to unlocking green energy transport via ammonia!

📣 New paper: Our collaborative interrogation of cobalt ferrite catalysts in water oxidation underlined the importance of defect engineering of these materials: While defect-poor samples were more active in chemical water oxidation, defect-rich catalyst work better in electrochemical water oxidation.

🤝 The work is a beautiful collaboration between chemistry and physics led by Heiko Wende's project B02 at University of Duisburg-Essen in the CRC/TRR 247. They utilized PALS (positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy) for defect analysis of our catalysts.

👉 Very fruitful joint workshop of the research profile areas Kiel Nano Surface and Interface Science (KiNSIS) and Life, Light & Matter (LL&M) at Kiel University and University of Rostock yesterday and today in Kiel:

Lots of 🤝 networking and discussions with many bright 💡ideas how to join forces strategically and thematically for future collaborative research in the north - very promising also in the field of 🧪 chemistry and for our institute!

Many thanks to the numerous colleagues from Rostock for their visit and to the KiNSIS team for organizing this event. 👍

🧂 Like adding spices to a meal, adding promoters to a solid catalyst can have a very important effect on the final result. Yet, the fundamentals of the interplay of active metals and promoters often remain unknown.

🔬 We have investigated the Ga-promotion of Cu particles for methanol synthesis from carbon dioxide and hydrogen and found a complex dynamic alloying and de-alloying under working conditions.

👉Today at Kiel University: Public event on occasion of the 150th birthday of 🏅 Nobel Laureate Otto Diels with a look onto his life and legacy and with research examples from modern organic chemistry. Otto Diels was co-inventor of the famous 🧪 Diels-Alder reaction and is the name-giver of our sister institute, the Otto-Diels-Institut of Organic Chemistry, where the symposium takes place. 🎤️ Among the plenary speakers: Prof. Robert Francke from LIKAT in Rostock. Follow the link for more information.

About us

👋 Welcome to the new Fediverse account of the Institute of Inorganic Chemistry at #UniKiel !

We will use it for 📢 science communication mostly by re-posting content from our 🥽🥼 researchers and 🧪 working group accounts. In addition, we will make an attempt to organize our 🎓 alumni network via the Friendica features.

Get in touch, if you are interested in #chemistry and #wisskom. In particular, if you are a member or alumni of our institute.
