InfoSec (no)body. Currently in the games industry. I sometimes have thoughts.
Mastodon is financed by crowdfunding instead of venture capital not because we don't know that venture capital exists, not because we don't have bills to pay, and not because venture capital isn't willing to give money to new social media platforms. VCs don't want a sustainable business, they want a big exit. Every VC-backed business is on a timer to deliver or die.

We're learning more about the serious threat that Musk poses to U.S. national security.

He's completely wired into America's security apparatus, and has been one of Putin's secret phone pals.

Democrats need to recognize that much of this got going under Obama, whose administration was simply reckless in trusting this guy.

Great reporting by the WSJ:

American conservatism is the idea that the state delivering free lunches to your school kids is an overreach, but the state burning your kid's school books is just fine.
🧵 In 2020, I nearly died from mysterious industrial chemical exposure at my apartment. Later, in 2023, I discovered my employer was dumping toxic waste into the apartment windows from their Skunkworks semiconductor fab next-door. I tipped off the US EPA, who sent their env cops to raid Apple's plant in Aug of 2023. The US EPA finally released the report of their enforcement inspections & sent me a copy on Friday. 💀 ⬇️
@maldr0id You can count me towards the limit of people who read the whole thing. Thanks for posting, it's needed to know we're not alone. Thanks for staying
@GossiTheDog we can add "paywaling security features/controls behind the most expensive tier" as a third guy holding them lol
@chiefgyk3d This is not a defense, just some fun history fact. Once again Valve fell victim to them implementing things early. Their in app single use codes were there before TOTP apps became popular. And just like with the "steam protocol" - nobody wanted to change it for a long time. And now a new sensation becomes popular - QR code, passwordless login, which they also implemented early.

@malwaretech Google Auth has been behind for a while. I hate to give my codes to a 3rd party but Authy ended up being the least painful way of using MFA that is not SMS based. Some people recommend 1Password or BitWarden but that kinda defeats the purpose of having secrets in multiple places (manager and a separate secrets app).

P.S. I think Apple users have it best as long as they never use a service that is outside of Apple's ecosystem 🤣

@GossiTheDog
As someone working in game dev (not ABK) - this is literally my nightmare. I have vivid dreams of some exec ruining my current working conditions because "shareholders" or some other reason in the name of profit.

And it's not just nightmares. Just recently they took away our profit sharing and weaponized a "happiness survey" against us.
It's depressing to work with such an amazing group of people but have to be reminded on every step of the way that we don't matter and it most likely won't be better (even if we change jobs).

@GossiTheDog It's a meh game for many different reasons. But hey, bigots gotta bigot
