In a country like India, where overworking is status quo, where most people lose precious time in commute due to shitty public transport, it is only natural that people will not have time+energy for socially reproductive labour. It makes sense that the women of the house are locked into the domestic realm, or if the women are working β the labour is outsourced to other women of marginalised classes. And slowly several of us are losing the skills and discipline required to do socially reproductive labour. Grocery shopping is outsourced. Small chores within the homes like ironing clothes is outsourced. I know someone who gets all their clothes laundered despite having a washing machine.
This is not to blame individual consumers, although we also need to be okay with not having things instantly or planning for them in advance. I just⦠I think it is criminal that we live in a society where a certain class of people have to bear the burden of chores we find boring or exhausting.
