Does anyone have a pixelfed instance they recommend? 👀

We need to trust our eyes.

Nazi salutes, racist purges, an ambush on the Ukrainian president by a far-right regime. If what we see aligns with what we know and is also in line with an established track record, our default assumption should be that what is happening is actually what it looks like.

I got laid off today, with the rest of 18F.

18F was an elite federal software shop. We made gov't websites work better, more efficiently for the American people. We saved taxpayers from getting screwed over by contractors. And were fired for it.

We made this website to tell our story:

https://18f.org/

18F: We are dedicated to the American public and we're not done yet

For over 11 years, 18F has been proudly serving the American people to make government technology work better. We are non-partisan civil servants. 18F has worked on hundreds of projects, all designed to make government technology not just efficient but effective, and to save money for American taxpayers.

There is no decent educated person *anywhere* who does not state clearly and authoritatively that *Russia* invaded Ukraine. *Twice*. Unprovoked.

This is not a judgment call, not a yabbit gray area.

Russia *invaded* Ukraine.

Anyone who can't put those words in their mouths is signaling clearly that nothing they say can be trusted.

1) vote (esp in the German election today, but also generally)

2) this, when you look at the results and want to cry / burn things down / stay in bed forever

People in the EU are now putting up stickers that read, “Elon Musk is attacking the European Union. Boycott Tesla,” and “Elon, stay away from the EU.” These stickers, featuring EU flags and a link to StopElon.eu, appear on public EV chargers and other visible spots. The message calls on EU citizens to defend democratic values against foreign influences.

Having your own website is not going to fix democracy, or topple the online pillars of capitalism - but it's making a political statement nonetheless. It says "I want to carve my own space on the web, away from the corporations". I think this is a radical act. It was when I originally said this in 2022, and I mean it even more today.

With the latest update to #Mastodon's web app, we show you a little reminder when you're about to post a picture without adding alt text. Alt text is crucial for accessibility, but has other perks too, such as making it much easier to search for your post—or filter it. Of course, the reminder can be simply toggled off in preferences.
My first piece for Zeteo is out! I wrote about Elon Musk’s attempt to rebrand himself from a ruthless, calculating billionaire to a down-home family man by using his toddler son. https://zeteo.com/p/elon-musk-the-dadfluencer-the-billionaire
