fountain pens are my new special interest

Shout-out to the #Pilot #Prera fountain pen for having that 70s retro vibe -- and that 70s #PocketPen energy that usually costs far more than this one. It's big enough for me to use uncapped, but small enough to *almost* rival a #Kaweco Sport.

#PilotPrera #FountainPen

I've got 6 small #FountainPen's now and I'm not sure how to classify them. Here they are, roughly from largest to smallest:

Small #PocketPen (fit full sized cartridge)
• Pilot Prera, nice and new
• Teiken double-sided pocket pen, circa 1970s

Very small (still supports a #converter)
• Kaweco Sport
• Jinhao 82, a Sailor 11 (mini) knockoff

Almost too small (int'l #cartridge only)
• Kaweco Lilliput
• No-name brass/wood thing that costs under $5 each in quantities of 3-5

Can anybody recommend me the most indestructible, retractable #FountainPen?

Asking for a friend. (Seriously though.)

I gave him a retractable #Moonman and he fell in love with fountain pens, but he does heavy duty work and says he almost broke it in half already.

"buying ink by the bottle is actually very cost-effective"

*Hides my collection of inks*

I can't remember where I found this picture, but it's an example of various #FountainPen #ink color combinations... Shading? That you can achieve with a single ink.

I've never seen most of these up close. Blue to black, yellow to red or rust, a sort of dark purple to maroon...

I've never had a broad tip pen before, but with the 5 mm dotted paper I have, it might be put to good use there if I use it with double spacing.

I might be a sucker for cheap Chinese #notebooks that cost around $6 apiece and have a paper feel that I can only describe as "wool-ish" compared to more common recommendations like #Rhodia and #Leuchtturm1917/ #Leuchtturm, which to me feel kinda more plastic-ish.

The Chinese notebook papers feel soft, and like to suck in #FountainPen ink. This often (but not always) gives pens broader lines than they usually have, which is both bizarre and interesting to me.

Anybody have any recommendations for fountain pen paper that's >.5mm between lines? Typical college ruled paper is great for me, but for some reason doesn't seem popular.

I can live with skipping every other line with lined paper, but I don't think it's ideal for me.

(Before I posted, it looks like I found one. Now I just need to figure out how to filter for this.)

I give up on the Pilot Elite series.

Got a New Old Stock one, flushed it, new Pilot brand ink, tried writing in a variety of ways (including as a righty)... and it's bad again.

If I move the pen toward my hand + apply pressure, ink flows. If I move it away OR stop applying constant pressure, ink stops flowing.

If you're left-handed and eyeing the Pilot Elite, or eyeing it in general... nah. Just nah 😔

#Teiken #FountainPen, pocket sized, probably from the 1960s to early 1970s, when long-shory pens were all the craze. (Probably produced by #Sailor.)

I really like small pens that post full-size in general, and this one posts really securely.

Nib: steel, both fine and medium. Turn it around to write with a different line width. Writes a little dry but I really like it that way.
