The separation is partly man made. I initially thought it was due to some strange current of temperature effect…but no there’s underwater walls that keeps them separate for a few hundred meters. Still quite a view.

Morning view from my hotel in Erbil. When I landed in Iraq I didn’t expect to find a city like Erbil. What you hear in the media is so scary, one expects the worst. Instead I found a vibrant city, beautiful historical (an amazing citadel) sites and plenty of friendly people. That being said, Erbil is a safe haven in a war torn country.

A late post. Yesterday was the Anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. An event that marked my generation and me. I had a few ties with Germany. Neighbors were German, took German classes since that year, and I’ve spent countless holidays in Germany. I visited Berlin a few times and rarely have I experienced a city that gave me mixed feelings of melancholy and vibrancy.
