@wordswithnima Stories from the very beginning were there to make sense of the world, to connect things that didn’t seem to make sense so when together they did.

Essentially storytelling is a defence mechanism to a chaotic world (I would argue religion is similar)

This may be controversial but I kind of hope #dungeonsanddragons does another 4E with this OGL thing and takes away some of its popularity.

I got into RPGs in 2011/12 and because D&D wasn’t popular the groups I went to played interesting and different games. It was a great time to be a GM.

Ever since 5E every group has gone back to “we only play D&D and nothing else”. It’s kind of depressing. I feel RPGs are actually better when D&D isn’t popular

@KarchWrites I actually did find it quick and easy for the most part, though there are definitely some self publishing sites that don’t make it very easy. I actually used most of them for my book: Amazon, Kobo, B&N, and Apple Books.

Amazon and Kobo were the easiest, the other two was the most difficult and annoying.

I won’t deny though, I don’t think my book was in the right boxes to do well tbh

@KarchWrites I’m a self publisher here. Only done one book a few years ago but I definitely hope to do more in the near future

@Monday no, home life is where you need to feel safe and yourself. These kind of places where you feel uncomfortable definitely have a mental scarring effect and will screw you up pretty much afterwards. Is 40k worth a lot of trauma or at least depression and bad coping mechanisms?

You can get by on a lot less tbh. All you really need saved up in your life is enough for a rental house deposit. Everything else is usually paid for by employment.

I feel I’ve gotten the #Poetry bug. Every new idea I have seems to be for a poem.

It seems the natural #Writing format for me. It’s a way to get my feelings and thoughts out in a nice way, without having to come up with characters and drama and arcs for it. I can just talk about the thing itself (in nicer language of course)

But it does feel like the audience for poetry is even less than novels…so that feels a bit heartbreaking.

@tobiasgray as an artist I only really care about audience, feedback, and discussion about my art. The money side is like right down the list.

As someone who lives in the capitalist world I’m forced to put that money side way up the list. I hate it.

@clarablackink I feel discipline versus cruelty to yourself is definitively complicated. I mean I have had periods of times where I haven’t been productive through not very good reasons, and discipline against that is useful. But obviously it’s a stick you can so easily beat yourself with.

It’s hard to sometimes know the line of “helpful” and “unhelpful” discipline sometimes

@clarablackink yes I am having to realise that being hard on myself isn’t always healthy, and to just allow myself to get through this
@annewalk thank you very much! I feel one good thing, knowing past experience, is that it will probably drift away and I can get back into it
