Just as @TechConnectify was commenting on how the "pick an instance" step is paralyzing, I'm agreeing and suggesting that perhaps some kind of universal gateway would be preferable.

You telling @TechConnectify to write his own because he thinks the onboarding is clunky, too?

@TechConnectify @[email protected] @shunley42 I think instances should be completely invisible to the user unless they really go digging, otherwise a ton of people and orgs who just want to post basketball game schedule updates/irl community meeting notes are completely turned off. I think it should be more like TOR, where people run endpoints because they support the mission at large rather than a particular interest/topic.

@TechConnectify same, I made the move under duress. There's a ton of inertia to fight, especially to migrate people/organizations who only joined Twitter in the first place because it seemed like everyone needed a presence there at one point.

@Mastodon I know you guys are German but can we get an American English option for the interface? Lot of unnecessary "ou"s where "o"s would do, e.g. "favourite". ;)
