Teardown - like Expiration Day before it - is a book about being in a band. There's more to both, of course, but how do you convey the music and the experience of being in a band?

Here's my take on it at https://wordslayered.wordpress.com/2026/03/04/writing-books-about-bands/

How do you escape from a dead-end, Thames Valley town like Marden Combe?
Drummer Kai plans to take the band to Germany - well, it worked for the Beatles!
Then their singer quits…
Follow Kai and the band on the road to Berlin, as desires and dreams collide.

As my Revise & Resubmit approaches its conclusion I've put together a blog post on the approach I've taken in Pass 3.
Pass 3 brings the focus back to the scene level, something that works particularly well with #Scrivener. Other editing and drafting tools are available.

Landmark day in my Revise and Resubmit editing. Scrivener tells me that my use of the word 'just' (141 occurrences) is now below the number of uses of the forename of the FMC (142 occurrences).

So you've finished your first draft - congratulations!
Q: Er… what's next?
A: Editing, of course.
Q: How do you go about that?
A: Every novel is different, but here's a process that's worked for me. I hope you find some useful ideas in there.

If you're facing a revise and resubmit for a manuscript, how do you approach it? Here are my thoughts on the matter as I finish the 1st pass: https://wordslayered.wordpress.com/2025/10/19/revise-resubmit-live/

He talked about electric cars. I don't know anything about cars, so when people said he was a genius I figured he must be a genius.

Then he talked about rockets. I don't know anything about rockets, so when people said he was a genius I figured he must be a genius.

Now he talks about software. I happen to know a lot about software & Elon Musk is saying the stupidest shit I've ever heard anyone say, so when people say he's a genius I figure I should stay the hell away from his cars and rockets.

The current golden age of SFF zines, 75% indie ezines, is a bubble. Ezines to break even use risky funding like not paying editors, crowdfunding, Am*zon subscriptions. Core reason why: <5% of ezine readership supports zines financially.

BCS: 0.7% of readership supports financially. (99.3% does not.) Until SFF field figures how to get more ezine readers supporting zines they read, ezines will depend on risky funding approaches (and will go under when they dry up).
