I think the issue is, that the "twitter bubble" has never experienced the Fediverse as it was a few weeks ago. They didn't work to unlearn the toxicity of  they are not here voluntarily like those of us that have been here for *years*. It took me the better part of a year to get the toxicity out of my system. It's how we were *trained* to behave. Strike first! Strike hard! No mercy!
Try to see the good in ppl. It sounds cheesy, but why not at least try?

Boy I went on a journey of Not Getting The Point here, despite The Point slapping me in my pocket every few seconds: THE NEWBIES ARE SIGNING UP WITH THEIR REAL ACTUAL FULL HUMAN NAMES.

*That's* why I'm seeing so many people do things that to me seem bizarre. It's because I'm used to interacting with raccoons, crows, witches, impossible geometric shapes, inflatable coatis and the anthropomorphic personification of paint smell

@maxkennerly i find the lack of quote tweeting annoying but I think I might agree with the rationale overall.

kinda sad to hear such resistance to the idea of using CWs liberally and considerately.

I hope our fedi communities continue to encourage ourselves to have a different culture from Big Corporate Social Media, where we actually act like communities of people who take care of each other as human beings, rather than resources to vomit your opinions at for fame.

This one MIGHT be more helpful: How to actually use Mastodon once you’ve set up your account (including norms like CWs and alt text!) https://www.swapnakrishna.com/blog/mastodon-primer-part-2 #twittermigration
What to Do Once You're on Mastodon (and what not to do) — Swapna Krishna

You’ve set up your Mastodon account, you’ve found some people to follow. Congratulations! Now what? (If you haven’t done this, check out the first post in this series for instructions on how to choose a server, set up your profile, and find people . If you want to find me on Mastodon, you can do

Scrolling my Twitter feed for memes and interesting science posts and then stumbling across aggravating politics tweets is probably THE main factor how the birdsite negatively impacts my mental health.

I love that Mastodon has a tradition of CWing anything even remotely upsetting, and will mute or block liberally everything that doesn't follow that.

I found some shitposters. I feel safe here now. Might switch servers, but it's all good.

Hey everyone, I'm building a list of congressional offices on Mastodon -- members of the House and Senate, committees, leadership offices, and non-partisan offices.

If you know of a member of congress that is on mastodon, please add them to the list, here: bit.ly/CongMastoForm

If you want to see who we have found so far, check out https://bit.ly/MastoCong

Thank you! Please help amplify to crowdsource the list.

Developing Mastodon, I strive to use terminology that is familiar to as many people as possible so as to not put up unnecessary barriers in understanding. For this reason I am happy that we went away from calling posts "toots". It has always been a point of friction for people. Not that I dislike branding, quite the opposite, but in my experience receiving feedback over half a decade, it had a negative effect on the platform for little benefit.
