Dropping historic knowledge and other gems
Al Capone was nicknamed Scarface due to three noticeable scars he got while bartending. He made inappropriate remarks to a lady at the Harvard Inn. It angered her brother, who attacked Capone with a knife.
He hated the nickname and often claimed his scars were war wounds from serving in France (which he never did). #capone #crime #facts #funfact #history #historical #mob #chicago

In the NFL’s early days, teams quickly came and went- but none so quickly as the Tonawanda Kardex Lumbermen (1921). They played only two games; the first a scoreless rain-interrupted tie with Syracuse. The second game was a 45 to 0 loss to the Rochester Jeffersons on Thanksgiving. Days later the Lumberman called it quits and became the shortest-lived NFL Franchise in history.

Winston Churchill was an accomplished writer, penning 42 books, and receiving a Nobel Prize in Literature. He was so sought after, John D. Rockefeller asked Churchill to author his biography in the 1930’s. Churchill’s prices were too high (he asked for $250k as an advance) so Rockefeller went with his second choice and Churchill went on to become Prime Minister.

@ct_bergstrom this is the most wholesome thread I have ever seen.

A familiar story, always worth re-sharing.
During WWI, soldiers called an unofficial truce on Christmas Eve. Across the Western Front they set up food tables, exchanged small trinkets, played soccer, buried their dead, and held church services. It was act of shared humanity breaking through the brutalities of war. Today, British and German soldiers still play a soccer game every Christmas Eve to commemorate that night.
