Dan GillmorThe World Wide Web Consortium -- shamefully -- created a standard embedding video-playback DRM in browsers. The reason was to placate the Hollywood-based Copyright Cartel. Sadly, Mozilla put this rancid technology into Firefox.
Now Google wants to embed DRM into simple browsing, to placate ad-sellers -- including, maybe especially Google.
Will Mozilla, which has a small browser market share, capitulate on this, too? I hope not.

It's funny that before I had kids, I vowed I would always try to answer my kids' questions rather than saying "I don't know", even if that answer was only "huh, I don't know, but hey, let's look it up!"
I've really stuck to that, and frankly I'm proud of myself for it. The point, obviously, is to help them grow, and to be honest when you don't know — which also teaches them that it's important to investigate rather than embrace uninformed bias or speculation, even unwittingly and subconsciously, as internal truths.
What I didn't expect was that they'd ask questions so vague and stupid that even though I know the answers to the component parts, I'd be too fucking dumbstruck to construct an answer. 😂
al3xwell, this was an unexpected morning. my company just announced that it will be closing at the end of the month and everyone will be terminated.
on a personal level, i’m 9 months pregnant and scheduled for a c-section in less than a week, which puts me in a tough spot as i know i’m gonna have to take “leave” time.
