Hello, I am Samantha and welcome to Time To Thrift! As a seeker of cheap thrills and a penchant for distinctive styles, thrifting has become a way for me to explore and express myself without breaking the bank as a university student.

I bought an unsustainable amount of #clothes in 2023. According to The Hot or Cool Institute, we must transition to a sufficiency wardrobe to achieve our climate goals. In 2024, I’m going to try Tiffanie Drake’s Rule of 5 - I commit to not buy more than 5 clothing items for all next year. Who’s with me? #clothing #fashion #sustainability #climate #ruleof5 #sufficiencyeconomy

Read the report here: https://hotorcool.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/Hot_or_Cool_1_5_fashion_report_.pdf

Xmas "presents" my wife and I bought ourselves at Goodwill. "Elsewhere" is the lowest price I find online for same item in same condition. Savings on elsewhere price is ~$424: $26+ in sales tax alone.

BTW we'd never buy these items elsewhere because those prices are too high for us. And even at Goodwill we buy only if item is high quality.

And it's not just about $. It's also #Conservation and #ReuseRecycle

EDIT: Apply national avg sales tax rate

It really is important to research when it comes to donating items to second-hand stores, good intentions may not always end up with good results. Passing non-wanted clothes to friends and family or repurposing pieces are always options too👕👍

Only 20 percent of thrift store donations are resold, here’s a better alternative of how and where to donate clothes

The addressing of potential that thrifting has on further marginalising oppressed populations is necessary now more than ever. Perhaps turning to other forms of sustainable fashion like renting clothes or holding clothing swaps amongst friends could be the next move for thrifters🤔🛍
