Thinking more people are going to engage with you on mainstream social media “because everyone’s there” is like thinking people at a stadium concert are there to listen to you. It‘s only true if you’re one of the ones on stage. Not so much when you’re huddled in the nosebleeds.
Forget the numbers. Forget about “going viral” (leave it to the psychopaths in Silicon Valley to make virus-like behaviour aspirational). Embrace the joy of interacting with one another on a human scale.

I spent a good part of this year investigating Google's ad business. Today we published a story about trying to crack open its black box ad network.
Unlike its competitors, Google conceals nearly all publishers it works with and where billions of ad dollars flow. We found that Google's vast ad network contains manga piracy, porn, fraud and disinformation.
Give it a read: https://www.propublica.org/article/google-display-ads-piracy-porn-fraud
Okay, so holy crap: earlier today @permagriculture recommended this browser extension for Mastodon, and IT IS A GAME CHANGER: https://github.com/lartsch/FediAct#installation
One of the more annoying things on Mastodon is if you end up on a page on a different server.
This solves that!
It's fantastic.
I know that some people hate browser extensions, but if you're cool with them, check it out.

So in the past 12 weeks, there have been…
-multiple attacks via firearms on power substations in NC and SC (just this week).
-6 attacks via firearms, hand tools, arson, & metal chains at power substations in WA and OR.
-6 attacks via firearms on substations in FL in a single 12-day stretch in September.
This style of attack on power substations has been laid out in detail in multiple accelerationist documents, including an “accelerationist handbook” that circulated on Telegram this summer.
When someone wants to talk about the cost of transitioning to a green economy, have that conversation. Not transitioning costs so much more, and not just money. Not transitioning means rebuilding systems that are not working, “throwing good money after bad” as they say. The only arguments left for continuing to invest in a fossil fuel economy are laziness and stubbornness, and these aren’t really arguments but habits.
