The worst thing about online learning is that everything has become a video. Every code tutorial. Every design tutorial. Nobody actually writes out a guide anymore. It's just "hey guys welcome to my tutorial" and watching 10 minutes of content that isn't remotely relevant...

What really frustrates me about that, is that someone put in a lot of effort to be able to write these things out using proper words, but it still isn’t really more readable.

Like, sure, unsigned is very obvious. But short, int, long and long long don’t really tell you anything except “this can fit more or less data”. That same concept can be expressed with a growing number, i.e. i16, i32 and i64.

And when someone actually needs to know how much data fits into each type, well, then the latter approach is just better, because it tells you right on the tin.

I joined #mastodon last week, on a whim, with no idea what to expect

Minutes later, I was welcomed by @dillyd which has never happened on any other platform and was a wonderful introduction. So I posted a couple pictures of my #cats, and found, to my surprise, people reacting and interacting

Maybe it's because I'm not fighting an algorithm, or maybe I just found a place where folks truly appreciate cats. Either way, I'm very happy to be here, and I hope you're prepared for more cat pictures

Picked up a refurb Dell laptop yesterday to put Linux on it. Went rapidly from Fedora with KDE Plasma, to Pop, before settling on Mint.

I got the Linux machine to PRINT something on my network printer. Without even having to curse at it or download anything. Linux has come a very long way since I last tried using it a decade ago.

It took 3 years on the Fediverse before I fell down the Linux rabbithole. You lot are a bunch of bad influences.

What do you mean you don't obsessively count the number of chocolates in a tub of Celebrations every year and put the results into an Excel spreadsheet!?
