@mirandayaver Trump's head of the INS did this, too -- he kept a spreadsheet of detainees' menstrual cycles (it was related to some anti-abortion thing he thought he could get away with). When I heard about that, I'd just heard of a Trump fund-raiser who had been arrested for child-porn on his laptop (not his first offense). Add to this the obsession with children's genitalia that so many prominent Republicans have, you have to wonder if it isn't a widespread sickness among them.

That's the excuse, anyway - nevermind that there are plenty of cis women who don't menstruate, or have inconsistent cycles.

@BlowUpRadio @mirandayaver I agree that the headline needs the full context that is omitted from the original post, but it does make you wonder why this requirement is being put forward for consideration now in particular? While there do seem to be some legitimate health reasons why sharing such info could be beneficial, it feels, be it intentional or not, a veiled attempt to identify trans athletes. Is the US an outlier internationally by making this mandatory?

Thank you for linking the actual article. I don’t find the headline to be misleading though.

As the article explains, while Florida hasn’t yet *mandated* this rule change, it has been recommended by a committee of the states governing body on student athletics and it is being *weighed* by that body.

Here’s a little more I get from the article and other documents:
- This kind of question is already on the health history for the student athletes sports physical form
- Similar questions are recommended by national medical associations for such health histories, to be provided to the physician doing the physical
- FL also apparently requires that the history is gathered by *schools*

To me (with no more specific knowledge that what is in these articles) the biggest questions are about whether and how the Florida students’ health information privacy is being protected. I would say that this is already a concern overall for the medical history overall.

The issue is particularly acute now for women, whether trans or not, especially in the context of trends in abortion law, motivating at least one school district to ask that the mandate to retain of such info at schools be ended.

I do think posting a headline without the context of the rest of the article is misleading and tries to "stir the pot" when the article itself gives context and that it is a little more nuanced. I would agree that the article is cause for concern.
