I deleted my Twitter account with disdain once Musk took it over. But I've joined up here just now because of this book by @pluralistic
It helped explain a lot about the internet's history and it's enshittified present, but in a way accessible to someone like me without a lot of technical knowledge. An important contribution to making sense of a nonsensical world.
Just hobbled over to get Dunkin and the anti-abortion/pro-birth troglodytes are out at every corner and the quad. MFer guy approached me and I yelled "talk to me when you have a fucking uterus!" Then I crossed the street to be approached by a girl, no more than 18, and I lit into her "So when the fetus dies in me I'm supposed to die with it instead of getting an abortion? Abortions save fucking lives!!! Get out of her with your religious bullshit! The Old Testimant gives instructions on how to perform life saving abortions! Quit following blindly and think for yourself!!" And then I crossed the other street to Dunkin and see a guy filming. "You got that on video? Good! It's all fucking true!! You fucking zelot!"
On the way back the chick said "sorry that happened to you." I replied "No you're not. You're just saying that to be nice! Fuck off!"
I felt like I was channeling my inner @PhoenixSerenity
So uh, yeah. (To be clear, I've never had an abortion. And I know they are part of healthcare and will fight for peoples rights to have them at any stage of pregnancy.)
Also, the university allows this but pepper sprayed and arrested the pro-Palestinian student group again and again for even daring to stay they support Palestine. So yeah.

In the get people Fedi-hired category, my university department has an opening for a senior (research-side) sysadmin where you'll get to do fun things in a dynamic group that's doing stuff at the crossover of chemistry, robotics, and computing. It's sadly not open to remote people, so Toronto only. And you'll be my indirect colleague (not in my group but working closely with us).

15 June 1885 | A German Jew, Max Reinhaus, was born in Stadtlohn. In 1938 he fled to The Netherlands.
He was deported to #Auschwitz from #Westerbork in February 1944. He was murdered in a gas chamber after the selection with his wife Clara.
SEGM paid a Canadian university to commission research against top surgery. Now that study is a weapon.
McSweeneys on #Ai#economics
"Benjamin owns a farm. He employs 100 workers plowing his fields. His total payroll is $10 million/year. One day, he buys a mule, which provides the worker who uses it with a modest 10 percent productivity gain. Benjamin fires 99 of his workers and purchases 99 mules, expecting a 1,000 percent productivity gain. The driverless mules cause plow damage to his property in excess of $50 million. Benjamin loses another $5 million due to the loss of productivity from his one remaining employee, who no longer guides a plow but instead spends 100 percent of his time shoveling mule shit. Goldman Sachs builds an altar to Benjamin in their lobby and cuts out the heart of a junior analyst on it every Friday. They call it “Blood Sacrifice Friday.” The name isn’t catchy, but the event becomes a management favorite nonetheless."

Seeing some people speculate that maybe America is responsible for some pretty bad racist things in Europe
I mean
You guys practically invented it (everybody sucks, but maybe take ownership for your own racists)
Edit: American companies and personalities don’t help things, that’s not up for debate. It’s also not up for debate that the general conversation about racism on that continent has been much more ‘let’s pretend it doesn’t exist and then we are surprised when bad things happen publicly’.
