Last night’s shift showcased why love my job, and why I hate it sometimes. Too many times I’ve heard our first responders cry out in pain and/or fear. It’s something you’ll never forget. I was fortunate enough to not hear it this time, but the same reaction occurred when I saw the “Officer Down” message added to the call; intense adrenaline. Within two minutes, we established a Fire/EMS command talk group, began coordinating our side of the operation, and had the Maryland State Police Medevac activated. It’s a testament to our entire team. We do our best work in the worst of circumstances.
I’m proud of what we did over these past two days, and I hope our efforts are rewarded by both officers returning to active duty soon.
