If you're going to take the time to post your lovely pics on social media, it's really worthwhile alttexting them. Like many others, I tend not to boost images that don't have alttext. Even if they're terrific. There are so many visually impaired people who use this platform specifically because of alttext use, that not doing it feels like a bit of a fuck you to them, and I'm not keen on that. If you struggle for any reason to write alttext, you can always use @altbot who will fill in the blanks for you. Your images will then reach a much wider audience, everyone will appreciate them and be grateful for your kindness and the world will be a slightly brighter place and you can feel good about yourself being a bit more inclusive. X

Re last boost, if you are making alt text, make it descriptive. You want visually impaired people to engage with your posts, be inclusive about it. You took the time to put alt text on your picture which obviously means you care in some fashion about accessibility. The truth of it is though, a simple sentence repeating the text of your post, isn't a description. Don't just tell us this is a bird, or this is a flower. Even if you identify the species, that does not give a blind viewer an idea of what is being shown, unless the person has felt the flower or had that flower or bird described to them.
Even if you don't use AI to help describe your picture, which we understand how controversial AI usage is, there are other ways to help improve your descriptions. Consider the color of the flower, the way the bird is moving, the way a cat's face looks or how your fluffy furball is positioned in the photo. Highlight those details, rather than reusing the vvague text of the post, and putting said vague text in the alt text box as a placeholder. Be respectful to those that need accessibility and desire inclusivity.

Still very pissed off by the term "IRL" (in real life) in relation to offline relationships. Online. Is. Your. Real. Life. Too. You're interacting with living, breathing people. Those people are somewhere in the world and have their own lives just as much as you do. If that's not real, if that isn't something in your real life, I don't know what is real life to you. The internet doesn't make those people less real or valid to interact with. Let's kill this term last decade please, mkay? Thank you. And no I will never, never stop fighting this absolute abomination of a term. I will fight it with every atom of my being until it dies. Sorry not sorry.
