Went birding today. And the start was fabulous. I came across a couple of grey crowned cranes. They were foraging along the road, and decided to walk towards my car. Giving a chance for a close up!

Edit: on 24. January 2026 one of this beautiful duo was killed on the highway. Road got closed because the other wouldn’t leave. After few hours it left, but came back later. 🥺

Walking in winter wonderland. I walked through the mist between the grass fields covered with snow and frozen ditches. The sun broke through and four short-eared owls were sitting in the shade by the water's edge. As I was watching them, a fifth flew in and landed on the frozen ditch between me and the four short-eared owls. The landed short-eared owls looked at me with a piercing gaze. Apparently time to move on.
