It's not financially sensible to become a PhD student, especially in Australia. The one PhD student I had from my DECRA quit, he couldn't make ends meet and uni finance didn't let me raise his stipend. Then I quit too.

I gave up preparing a health research grant as my father was just diagnosed with the very disease in question–impossible to rationally focus on the topic.
