If your looking for a programming course to sharpen your skills, then I strongly recommend #cs50p
The teacher is extremely motivated, the course is self paced and you'll learn a lot from it! currently on week 3.

So uh, is #skype just caching things, or is it actually still alive?

I can see a user and their status is active.

Hello everyone,
Soon, I need to look into getting another phone, as Android updates for my phone have stopped, so it's just security updates.
Unsure what the cutoff is, but I assume it's in the next year or two.
I'm lookingat potentially getting a #fairphone
What do people think of it? Any particular issues?

#degoogle
#android #calyx #lineage

#paypal is updating their legal agreements.

Would someone who is better at reading agreements than me like to tell me if there are any mind-bogglingly bad changes? The kind of change that might prompt me to close down the account?

Hey guys,
#AlmaLinux has been running great for me, I love it.
Well, other than one slightly odd thing.
Despite having the service enabled, firewalld won't start on boot, however, when I run systemctl start firewalld it starts, no problems.
The output before manually starting it is just inactive, dead.
Anyone know what this might be?
@NVAccess Hello, I'm attempting to do Maths with the Math cat addon, set to UEB, I also have braille extender installed.
Maths comes up correctly on my display but typing in the UEB symbols into the display causes a bunch of junk to be generated instead of my equation.
Square root and squared are the two examples I've tried that do not work.
Is there a work-around for this? maybe another addon that allows writing Mathematics?
Hey #blind people, have any of you went on holiday on your own?
I'm curious how that works when your older, do you get friends to help you out?
I'm assuming even with the best skills you'll need some sighted help, but I may be wrong.
Just got an email that #freenow has been purchased by #lift
Does anyone have any experience with Lift?
I'm assuming this is not good news, but if you believe otherwise please let me know, well, let me know your thoughts in general, of course.

Hey guys, I'm studying #computersci
#ComSci

So far I've ben learning about #python and soon going to do #c soon.
Would people benefit from me posting about what I've learned? I'm assuming not, after-all, there's lot of documentation online and Mastodon isn't a documentation site, obviously.
Ultimately I'd like to connect in some way with learners/the programming community out there on the fediverse!
One reason why I've been thinking about posting what I've learned is: I really, really hated programming for the first and most of the second semesters of college,I struggled to understand concepts, but suddenly one day it clicked that actually, I do love making programs and this isn't actually so hard!
Don't give up people! Programming is a rough ride for the first while, but it's well worth it and eventually you'll experience that wow/feeling of inspiration moment. Work is hard, but it does pay off in the longterm.

So, I don't want to piss people off, but I feel like #ubuntu and Ubuntu server just aren't what they used to be.
I heard that upgrading to the 24.04 has caused issues for some people, and indeed my wsl installation broke when upgrading. Let me be clear, bugs in an upgrade are normal, but in that case the script just told me hey! there's errors and that I could reboot the system, it didn't role me back or really offer any other choices. The system did not boot again.
When I upgraded to the latest server lts, Ubuntu spontaneously decided that whenever I'd update a package it'd restart services without asking, I don't like that, especially since the release upgrader/setup scripts didn't ask me if that was okay. I'll decide myself if/when to restart things and yeah, when you consider the fact that there are conferencing servers on there, yeah, not great.
I also get messages about Ubuntu pro, and the package updates that would be available if I signed up.
There's also the decision to include snap in the server version.
Like, it is usable, but in terms of an OS for any future servers of mine? will probably pick something else.
May also migrate to another OS.
Does anyone agree with my views or am I the only one?
