Did some searching and finally learned out how to turn off notification sounds in #Mastodon -- it's not under Preferences, as I thought. Open #Notifications, then the three bar control icon at the top, and then you'll see additional notification preferences, including sound settings. Thank you the person who left this solution "for future googlers!" https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/issues/14557#issuecomment-1108590191
There should be a way to disable all sounds for any notification · Issue #14557 · mastodon/mastodon

Pitch From what I can currently tell of Mastodon you can only suppress notification sounds (toggling the "Play sound" setting in the notifications tab) for "New followers", "New follow requests" an...

This piece on Wired about Black Twitter is worth your time. It's something I've been thinking about a lot, about how uneven a migration to a new space ends up being.

It also is one thing I'm eyeing about Mastodon. There's a danger that servers become silos if we aren't intentional. If you listen to some of the Black scholars in my field, they are saying as much. Twitter makes their work visible across groups.

So how do we federate for inclusion? It will be a challenge.

There Is No Replacement for Black Twitter

A series of missteps by Elon Musk has called the fate of the platform’s cultural engine into question.

The coffee shop gave me an extra croissant when I stopped by on Scout’s walk. He is now making the argument that it should be given to him. He makes a strong case.
There's something clever that could be said here about apocalyptic thought and the death of Twitter. Clearly we're watching this thing collapse in real time. It's a small thing, really, but still the end of a social phenomenon and for a lot of us a chapter of our lives/career. Gonna have to ruminate on it.
I'm thinking a lot about twitter as a source, and how much we're going to lose.
Anyway, very in touch with medieval people's thoughts today, lol.

#NoSpoilers So, I decided to watch the first episode of #InterviewWithTheVampire because it's free on Amazon Prime.

Wow, they have done an amazing job on this show! Jacob Anderson is killing it as Louis, I am enthralled by his interpretation of the character. And Sam Reid nails that vampire magnetism.

If you don't like the content warnings and sensitive media levels in Mastodon, you can change your Sensitive Content settings to "Always show media" and "Always expand posts with content warnings"
Let’s be clear that CWs are great. But someone existing as different from you, as a marginalized identity, does not go behind a content warning. And talking about the discrimination they experience might make you uncomfortable—trust me, when I experience racism, it’s very uncomfortable. The response is to try and do something about it, not to tell them they’re making you uncomfortable.
hi, everyone, & thank you to the people moderating & looking after this space <3
Hullo. So this is Mastodon, eh? Well, I'm here. And to celebrate, here's a photo I took yesterday in Kingston NY of Good Omens director Douglas directing An Unnamed Actor (on the other side of the glass) in Episode 2 of Good Omens Season 2 (Coming Next Summer).
