@GreenFire Thanks. I'm probably over stating electricity emissions as our grid was 35% renewable this past year and the calcs from the power company assume 900g/kWh when the emissions intensity is now 480g/kWh overall. We do import in the evening when renewables are not as strong so Im comfortable with a higher figure I want to reduce further.

In 2022 we decided to not use our unflued gas heater over winter and instead rely on our reverse cycle air con unit. We also added a second unit to the other end of the house after last summers ridiculous temperatures, 11 days over 40°C. Our house is a 1950s build with poor insulation and terrible ventilation and needs to be upgraded but is an expesive process with all the asbestos built into the place. Gas stove and water heating systems next on the agenda.

How did this affect our energy usage?
10MWh of electricity generated by our 5kW system
Electricity imported slightly up and gas usage halved.
Solar self use up 1MWh to 40%
Total energy use, included cars, down 12% from 2021.

Costs increase by AU$100 as gas has remained very cheap here in WA due to #statecapture and a govt that requires X amount of gas at Y price for the domestic market. We also have a 50% discount so it would have been cheaper for us to continue to use gas for our heating.

Conquest of the Useless

A couple of months ago I wrote in to ask that the EPAs recommendation to extend the NW Shelf Gas Project to 2070 be reviewed. This is a disaster for the climate and the local peoples rock art that has survived for 1000s of years.

Response from the appeal conveynor below.

This is update 2 on your appeal against Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) Report 1727 for the North West Shelf Project Extension.

What’s happened?

Since our last update, we have focussed on concerns raised by appellants about the adequacy of the EPA’s assessment of the proposal’s greenhouse gas emissions. This has included meetings with some appellants with specific expertise in climate change science and carbon accounting.

We have continued to review the EPA’s assessment of the proposal against best available technology, including how greenhouse gas emissions (and other emissions to air) from other liquefied natural gas proposals are considered elsewhere, including in Canada and the United States.

We have also had discussions with the EPA and representatives of the proponent (Woodside Energy) on the status of their respective responses to the appeals.

What’s next?

For the next two months, our investigations will continue to focus on the EPA’s assessment of greenhouse gas emissions as well as potential impacts to rock art from emissions from the proposal. Our investigation will include engagement with Traditional Owner groups and knowledge holders associated with Murujuga.

A developing focus will also be on human health, noting that a number of appeals (including by medical practitioners) have raised concerns over possible adverse health impacts if the proposal is implemented.

When will I hear more?
We will provide all appellants with a further update by the end of February 2023.

We will provide all appellants with a further update by the end of February 2023.

EPA gives green light to extend life of Woodside's North West Shelf project to 2070

Western Australia's environmental regulator recommends approval to extend the life of the North West Shelf gas project by almost 50 years, subject to strict conditions, including that it achieves net zero emissions by 2050, to help preserve Indigenous rock art in the area.

Australia's national online treasure, Trove, will see a significant cut to services by the middle of 2023 if the National Library of Australia does not get sufficient funding for it from the Federal Government. This massive repository of digitised material and catalogues is not just an Australian resource - researchers (academic, professional hobbyists) from around the world use it. It is valued by people who do #FamilyHistory #genealogy #histodons #DigitalHumanities #DigitalHistory #OzHist

Trove's funding runs out in July 2023 – and the National Library is threatening to pull the plug. It's time for a radical overhaul

Seven years after the #fundtrove campaign, the National Library’s Trove is once again under threat – and it’s part of a broader neglect of Australia’s cultural institutions.

Let me get this straight, there was far more global outrage at activists throwing soup at a painting, than there is directed at the world leaders at #COP27    who are RIGHT NOW failing to prevent #climate catastrophe?!
@trtmn click a hashing and this icon should appear to follow it, but I can't see where that list is kept. You can pin them though which works well
@trtmn I couldn't find where to view the ones I followed on the Web client. I did check the commit and there appears to be an api for getting them but haven't investigated it yet
