🇵🇹 PhD in Social, Cyber Psychology.

Focused on #VideoGames, #GameDesign and #GamingIndustry. I love #tech in general; currently learning about #UX to apply my research knowledge in a related field.

I've been playing since I was 3~4yo, mostly influenced by my brother. Currently I focus a lot on #IndieGames, but also some AA and AAA here and there.

I play games @ https://www.twitch.tv/sirbecas as a tribute to my brother.

Started playing Tekken 8 recently. Needed something to scratch the competitive itch without too much time commitment. Cool stuff.

But even cooler: my first was Tekken 2. Started replaying it on my phone with an emulator and holy shit is this still a good game! Aged soooo well!

With all the discussion surrounding and people going crazy because, allegedly, #Microsoft may get rid of exclusives and whatnot, it's quite interesting to see the huge success #Sony has had by having a "let-us-get-our-exclusives-on-other-platforms" approach.

Helldivers 2 is now PlayStation's biggest PC launch by a factor of two

The peak concurrent players Steam has doubled God of War.

@flipflap congrats to you too! Yeah, the first few weeks are rough, but I'd say around the middle of the first month ~middle of the second, things start to feel much better and we can just go with the flow. I can now play games much easily. I also know the kid much better and can predict when he will need something.

When they are about to have a kid, #gamers wonder if they will have time to play #videogames.

Two and a half months in, I can safely say there is time, as long as the baby sleeps.

But that's not the real question.
The important question is: will you have the energy?

Depends on the sleep patterns. But sometimes you really just wanna sleep too.

So worry not if you want to have kids and play games. You will naturally find a way of doing so, just get your priorities straight.

@scribblemacher yeah, for now my problem is more that I have to hold the kid a lot of the time. I also found that playing on my laptop on the couch works.

But nothing like having a portable console, indeed. Having the kid on my arms as I play is comfy to both of us

After having a kid and actually being "forced" to invest some hours into the console, I can safely say: the #NintendoSwitch is the best console ever made. Not because it is the most powerful or anything. Just because it is versatile, portable, has a decent battery. For the games and experiences it offers, mixed with the convenience of being hybrid, I think this is def one of the best inventions in the #videogame market.

Just got done with #XenobladeChronicles 1. Shall start #Zelda BotW soon!

@Angry84 right, my point is just that people seem to have this idea that videogames as a medium should be in a continuous evolution technologically speaking, even going beyond simply making better/more polished/more complex games.

It feels as if each couple of years companies should bring new crazy innovation to the table. VR was a good example. And I'm obviously not bashing innovation. Just saying that a good 2D game like hollow knight is as good as a new, super innovative, VR game.

Sometimes I see discussions about the future of #gaming. That it's gonna evolve and become something within some kind of hyper realistic augmented reality or VR world.

But why would it? No other form of art evolved in such a way. Music is still the same music, maybe with new instruments. Cinema, probably more comparable to #videogames, also never took that leap and except for IMAX. But even IMAX is not something I'd consider main stream by any means.

Any thoughts, fellow #gamers? 🤔

@sfcgeorge gotcha! Thank you!!

@brakeoutgaming absolutely! That's the idea I have from HK as well.

I'm working on something about this. There is some psychology behind it. Shall share it around here once I manage to publish this
