4'33" (L/A)
My music is a silence.
It rises,
Blooms
Where others cannot hear.
Like a concrete rose.
Or organ-pipes,
Enclosed
In cedar or mahogany.
So let fugues
Submerge
This singer’s call
A subject unreleased.
Or the Clitter,
Clatter
Down and down
Of pedals
Falling under feet
I'll sit and listen evermore
And never dare to speak
As she settles on another chord,
A noiseless harmony.
Fossil
10 million years from now
Will they find us?
Two strangers
And yet so close
We are no Lovers of Varldaro
But when we stand face to face
Eye to eye
I see the quite safety of stone
Sand and limestone locked in place
And underneath
Is a beating spirit of song
The imprint remains
Strange creatures
Moved, displaced
Layered in sediment
One still frame
Why fear time’s decay?
When we could sleep soundly.
In 10 million years
Will they find us?
First Snow
Prague wakes up snuggled
under a cashmere blanket
the night clouds have thrown.
It lifts up
the diffused light
back to the sky —
a milky haze
over the Dancing House,
Portheimka Park,
and the green spires
on the red Church
of Saint Wenceslaus nearby.
It muffles the Monday morning rumble of trams at Anděl, inviting all dogs to roll over and play alive under the white-edged lindens.

Hi, I do Substack now...
“What’s happening to freedom of speech in this country is undeniably alarming,” she says. “Why are we investing money and resources and support in arresting elderly Quakers and priests sitting peacefully in Trafalgar Square protesting the deaths of thousands of people by a country to whom we are still selling arms?"
- Juliet Stevenson
