Gosh I love how weird old Jesse Marsh comics could be.
They’re here! The new compact tpb edition of Superior Foes of Spider-Man! And boy I have got a whole lot of signing and sketching ahead of me.
The Helioscope etsy shop has some copies available: https://helioscopepdx.etsy.com/listing/4486872085
The perfectly American thing is, we haven’t had as bad an oil shock as anticipated because our greatest geopolitical rival got smart and wildly accelerated its transition to renewables, cutting its demand, and our response is “well thank God that’s keeping prices down so *we don’t have to do that.*”
Rode the shuttle from the hotel to the con this morn, seated between a drummer for the Ramones and two chatty, amicable women who are retired pro wrestlers. Sometimes you find yourself living in a Jaime Hernandez comic.

Wood's 22 Panels That Always Work is something to keep handy in case of emergency. The emergency? a non-visual comics script.

Comics work best when they use pictures to advance & enrich the narrative. When a script doesn't do that, an artist still needs to communicate drama. Film has sound & movement for that. In comics, we've got gesture, lighting, composition.

You 'll run through a lot of clever shots keeping the reader's eye engaged. Out of good ideas? Break the glass and deploy Wood's 22.

Old art: one of my favorite gags from Superior Foes of Spider-man. And it will be back in print THIS MONTH! FINALLY! We're taking preorders for signed & sketched copies of the new tpb collection at the helioscope webstore: https://helioscopepdx.etsy.com/listing/4486872085/pre-order-superior-foes-of-spider-man
