Well, what a fun past couple of weeks I've had. Been getting proposals from a couple vendors to modernize our data center from super old EOL hardware that breaks frequently and are severely lacking security. Worked out a hell of a deal for a Dell VxRail cluster to replace all our old hardware and SANs (sans have been in use since 2005 and require Netscape to access the GUI).
Created a big ass presentation essentially laying out where we need to go to protect the business and what keeping the status quo means. Proved out that our new backup system works flawlessly when a production system went down and had to virtualize it from the backup onto a near EOL Nutanix cluster. Also showing why we cannot rely on the old shit.
Finally getting my director on board with me and my manager that this technical debt HAS to be paid soon to prevent the entire business from crashing if the main app has a similar issue. Hopefully will be presenting this to our CIO next week to get his backing.
Also got my yearly raise to find out my director and manager fought to get me a 10% bump. And finally, got myself a new car that I've been impatiently waiting for as my 10 year old car was burning oil like a fucker. Thanks CarMax for overpaying on that. Now, just chilling this weekend with the kiddos and wife and watching some football.
