NO. The behaviors of the people are what you need to focus on, not *symbols*. The reason Nazis still exist today is because their symbol was deposed, but their ideology has been allowed to thrive right under our noses. It has remained OK to talk and behave like a Nazi in this country, as long as you make it about black and brown people, or the immigrants, disabled, and the homeless - because the prejudice at the core of Nazi ideology is still alive and well, normalized more every day.
@markwyner reminder: "The swastika is a symbol used in various Eurasian religions and cultures, as well as a few African and American cultures. In the Western world, it is widely recognized as a symbol of the German Nazi Party, which appropriated it for its party insignia starting in the early 20th century." So... Nazi's don't own it. It's foolish to stigmatize something that was stolen and corrupted. You're just making it easier for Nazis to erase the cultures they stole it from.
@ploum @protonprivacy @kagihq It's AOL all over again. They sent out those cursed "First month free" CD-ROMs but counted every single one of them, including all the ones that ended up in the trash, as "active accounts" for their shareholder meetings.
seems dangerous if there is no democracy or transparency behind the translation. Seems like an effective way for bad actors to subversively distribute messaging or communications through a public channels too. Furthermore, if they get hacked, that could be like opening Pandora's Box: Social Experiment Edition. I think some form of this does NEED to exist, but with more user control and trustworthy translation. Language shouldn't be a barrier to communication. Neither should hearing.
@mark mmmhmm.... you're SO close to figuring it out... Once you stop carving out exceptions for your own 'preferred' civilian-slaughtering terrorists, and catch up on a bit of history...
@mark @jwildeboer how, exactly, does one protest against terrorists or terrorist attacks? 🤔 Wouldn't the gathering just make it easier for them?
@AndyDeardentsa @MaierAmsden @QasimRashid Actually, Jesus covered this as well. When asked what was the most important commandment, he replied:
"Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.” ~Mark 12:28-
