so a bunch of Twitter engineers that agreed just last week to be the new *HARDCORE* coders for Elan got fired the day before thanksgiving for "poor code"
...and the even suckier part? They only get 4 weeks severance instead of the 3 months they would have if they said NO last week

@kcarruthers I don't understand why everyone says this is an issue for Apple. I doubt Apple is getting a cut of every netflix or spotify subscription, and yet the netflix app still exists.

@benoni I think each admin would like to give notice of it came to that, but imagine Server crash, or some other incident seeing it taken down without much, or any notice 😕
@benoni so where are followers "stored"? If the instance is gone then how do you do a remapping/alias thing to the new one for them to find you?
what happens if the mastodon instance you have chosen shuts down? Do you lose your account and toots etc?
