@mosseri greetings from Mastodon. Thank you for the interop. I I confess I never thought it would happen.
@Migueldeicaza @carnage4life Yes, and we do need new law (from Congress, not random courts) defining fair use.
@RickGaehl I love that painting. You can't see it in the reproduction, but when you sit in front of the original you can feel the direction of the wind coming at you. It is an amazing rendering of the surface of the water.
@adrianco it's called hellco for a reason.
@carnage4life @joeross There's something baffling here. Yes, there's been a long tail, but there's also been a steady enshittifcation of content. The Hollywood model of more investment by more vertically integrated companies has not produced better art, happier consumers, or more satisfied workers. It's weird that quality of product is discussed so little.

Maybe the system was set up to allow this arrogance:

GERRY. The evils we experience flow from the excess of democracy. The people do not want virtue, but are the dupes of pretended patriots.

Constitutional convention debates, May 31, 1787

Wherever I look I can see news about a few very rich individuals being stranded on a submarine that was supposed to take them on a tour of the Titanic. The effort put in place to rescue them appears huge in scope.

Last week over six hundred people died in a #shripweck off the coasts of #Greece and nobody cared. Nobody even bothered to start a rescue operation until it was too late.

Stop pretending people are equal, I hate this hypocrisy.

"The reasonably strong psychological, pharmacological, neurobiological and hormonal indicators of sentience that we now have for many animals, including some #insects, mean that acquiring evidence in the opposite direction is in order. We should demand reasonably strong evidence of the absence of #sentience before subjecting them to interventions that have the potential to cause intense distress."

"I asked a group of Helsinki officials what role information technology has played in their success reducing crashes in recent years. 'Zero,' replied Palomaki. 'We simply slowed down the cars.'"

Finland also investigates fatal car crashes similarly to how we investigate plane crashes.
