Some dangerous but frequently expressed myths spotted in the media:

Wealth trickles down from the rich.... (it doesn't);

The state is like a household & must therefore 'balance the books'.... (it isn't & doesn't);

The poor have only themselves to blame...(no, poverty is often due to external factors);

The rich got there through hard work.... (no, mostly the rich have either benefitted form inheritance or have, unacknowledged, good luck)....

Just sayin'

When truth departs โ€“ as it is doing from the political field โ€“ we are in very deep trouble https://www.taxresearch.org.uk/Blog/2025/07/11/when-truth-departs-as-it-is-doing-from-the-political-field-we-are-in-very-deep-trouble/ Politicians used to spin, but now they just lie. And the trouble is, they lie on big issues like genocide, the fact that it is going on, and that our country is complicit in it. How long can this go on for before trust breaks down completely?

Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Chris Hedges has written this on X when referring to the sanctions put on United Nations Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese by the United States of America: The attack against Albanese presages a world without rules, one where rogue states, such as the U.S. and Israel, are permitted to...

โ€œSorry, we canโ€™t afford jury trials.โ€

You can afford warplanes carrying tactical nuclear weapons. You can afford a King. You can afford a Cold War SLBM system. You can afford a subsidised bar for members of Parliament.

Once you get rid of those, come back to me on how you canโ€™t afford to allow people their right to a jury trial.

Jury-free trials recommended to save courts from 'collapse'

Many criminal cases should be decided by judges to reduce the backlog, a senior judge recommends.

@sjwrenlewis explores some reasons the Labour Govt. has not been doing so well.... including an unwillingness to say, outright, that Brexit has been a failure.

But, as he also notes, in opposition & now it 'was never realistic to think that better management could bring Western European levels of public service provision with substantially lower than Western European levels of tax'!

Well, Rachel Reeves looks likely to have to grasp that nettle pretty soon!

Everyone knows Labour has made mistakes. What is more worrying is why those mistakes were made.

  Every political journalist has been writing their one year assessment of the Labour government. The general view is that Labour is in cris...

Just in case any younger viewers can't comprehend the lack of sympathy/wave of lighthearted vitriol towards Norman Tebbit. He was a cruel bastard. One of The Great Witch's trusted lieutenants. Good riddance.

I have tried today by going through the original discussion about the Terrorism Act of 2000 that it was NEVER the intention of any MP of either side of the house to bring stigmatise and label protestors at terrorists. Even people like Anne Widdecombe were not saying that. you might wish to look at my TL for poorly written threads

What has gone wrong in 25 years?

Yesterday marked the 9th anniversary of the publication of the Chilcot Report.

And of course, after years of delays and attempts to redact large parts of it, the end result was that ultimately nothing happened.

Nobody was ever prosecuted. Nobody in the media who made the case saw their career ended, or their platform diminished.

Jeremy Corbyn issued a formal apology on behalf of Labour to the nation, the families of soldiers impacted, and the people of Iraq.
He was derided for it.

You don't have to be callous to be a neoliberal!
The stock market is failing according to the CBI. So why donโ€™t we just let it go?

I posted this on Twitter this morning: https://twitter.com/RichardJMurphy/status/1942861045426516103 My point is serious. The CBI is saying that the situation with regard to the UK stock exchange is getting desperate, because it is losing out to overseas markets and not attracting sufficient business. The question that needs to be asked is, why is that?...

@JackTheCat He & his warped leader epitomised the attitude of UK governments of both hues.
The electorate & offspring are cash cows only to be allowed enough to stop them from a full scale revolution.
If only the cases of change brought about by protest were publicised by education.
Instead we have big brother, love island, Iโ€™m a celebrityโ€ฆ.., etc, etc.
Capitalism is winning at the moment, will socialism ever come back?

@JackTheCat
In answer tae the question : The Scots do not like the idea of nuclear waste being stored in Scotland.
Yer mans answer wis "What can they do about it? It has nothing to do with them!

Git oan yer bike stiffy..Byeeeee ๐Ÿ˜‡๐Ÿ˜

@JackTheCat He famously said "When I was young, if I lost a job, I got on my bike and went looking" or something similar.

He ignored the fact that his government had destroyed so many industries and communities that there were no longer the jobs available.

But it was OK for him, because he just got in his taxpayer-funded limo to take him to work.

He was a vile person. Totally ignorant of reality.
