Some dangerous but frequently expressed myths spotted in the media:

Wealth trickles down from the rich.... (it doesn't);

The state is like a household & must therefore 'balance the books'.... (it isn't & doesn't);

The poor have only themselves to blame...(no, poverty is often due to external factors);

The rich got there through hard work.... (no, mostly the rich have either benefitted form inheritance or have, unacknowledged, good luck)....

Just sayin'

You can afford warplanes carrying tactical nuclear weapons. You can afford a King. You can afford a Cold War SLBM system. You can afford a subsidised bar for members of Parliament.

Once you get rid of those, come back to me on how you can’t afford to allow people their right to a jury trial.

@sjwrenlewis explores some reasons the Labour Govt. has not been doing so well.... including an unwillingness to say, outright, that Brexit has been a failure.

But, as he also notes, in opposition & now it 'was never realistic to think that better management could bring Western European levels of public service provision with substantially lower than Western European levels of tax'!

Well, Rachel Reeves looks likely to have to grasp that nettle pretty soon!

I have tried today by going through the original discussion about the Terrorism Act of 2000 that it was NEVER the intention of any MP of either side of the house to bring stigmatise and label protestors at terrorists. Even people like Anne Widdecombe were not saying that. you might wish to look at my TL for poorly written threads

Yesterday marked the 9th anniversary of the publication of the Chilcot Report.

And of course, after years of delays and attempts to redact large parts of it, the end result was that ultimately nothing happened.

Nobody was ever prosecuted. Nobody in the media who made the case saw their career ended, or their platform diminished.

Jeremy Corbyn issued a formal apology on behalf of Labour to the nation, the families of soldiers impacted, and the people of Iraq.
He was derided for it.
