When in Berlin, I was drawn to visit the area of former East Berlin where the Soviets put their stamp of mid-century modernity on the city. Both of these buildings were on Stalinallee, a development intended to showcase Soviet style and new construction techniques to the world. Many of the stations on the Prague Metro have these beautiful metallic dimpled walls running the length of the platforms. Each station has a different color theme. This station, Hradčanská, is the gold one.

Inside the 15th century gothic “Powder Tower” in Prague. At the base of this tower is a gate that once separated the old and new sections of Prague. It was the staring point of the coronation procession for Bohemian kings that concluded a few miles away up on the hill at Prague Castle.
