How do academic organizations select candidates?

Kathia Serrano Velarde and I have studied the textual dramaturgy of organizational evaluation in two settings: grantmakers selecting candidates for funding and universities selecting candidates for professorships.

Due to its historical perspective, the analysis also traces the emergence of the figure of the "candidate" in academia.

Heute hat mich das Buch "Universitätskarrieren und soziale Klasse" von Frerk Blome erreicht. Eine fantastische, theoretisch anspruchsvolle und empirisch sehr reichhaltige Studie über "weite soziale Aufstiege" in der Wissenschaft. Ich hatte das Vergnügen, die Dissertation als Zweitbetreuer zusammen mit @kosmuetzky zu begleiten.

Die Lektüre des Buchs kann ich wärmstens empfehlen, ob aus ungleichheitssoziologischer, biografietheoretischer oder an Fachkulturen interessierter Perspektive.
