Spectrum Policy 101

What is spectrum policy? Why do we need it? How is it used? Spectrum policy is about managing the use of the airwaves by mobile phones, satellites and a huge range of other devices ranging from radio telescopes to garage door openers. How can we ensure that all these users get access to the spectrum while bringing the maximum benefits to society? This podcast brings together experts from engineering, economics and policy-making to give an introduction to this issue. It is brought to you by PolicyTracker, which produces a newsletter, research and training courses on spectrum management.

Great story in the New Yorker on the secretive world of billionaire yacht owners. Astounding example of the growth in wealth inequality.

Just my opinion, a flexible approach could be best for the #quotetoot and #fulltext #search features being discussed for #Mastodon. Something like this:

1. Server settings

Allow users to enable:
☑️ Quote-toots
☑️ Full-text search of their own toots

2. User Settings

By default my toots:
☑️ Can be quote-tooted by others
☑️ Can be found via full-text search
(You can change these settings for individual toots.)

Include in my timeline:
☑️ Quote-toots

Musk blamed a Twitter account for an alleged stalker. Police see no link.

The incident last week underscored how Elon Musk’s personal concerns can influence his governance of a social media platform used by hundreds of millions of people.

This is what happens when you try to add your matodon profile to your Twitter bio. Insanity.
This is ludicrous. Are they going to manually review every account now looking for social media links?? http://www.techmeme.com/221218/p5#a221218p5
Twitter will remove accounts made to “promote other social platforms” and content that has links or usernames to Facebook, Mastodon, and others
