Our new article “Dangerous Speech: A Cross-Cultural Study of Dehumanization and Revenge” is available for free download here:

Law and social science identify dehumanizing language as a primary factor in explaining violence against targeted groups. Our research finds that revenge speech has greater effects; calls to revenge past atrocities trigger stronger negative emotions and are more likely to lower empathy for the outgroup.

Findings seem kind of relevant today.

This Washington State ban on most new purchases of many semi-automatic rifles is a step in the right direction. I’m very curious to see how the U.S. Supreme Court treats it if/when the Court hears the inevitable #SecondAmendment challenge to it.
