#Earth 🌏 can be found on one of the #MilkyWay’s 🌌 outlying spiral arms – the #Orion-Cygnus arm, sitting at a point roughly halfway from the #galactic centre to its outer rim. To reach either, you’d have to travel about 25,000 lightyears https://www.skyatnightmagazine.com/space-science/where-earth-in-milky-way

NEW: Two dead. One critical.
An avalanche has struck a popular ski route in Courmayeur, Italy, as dangerously unstable snow grips the Alps.

A record toll this week: 10 of 13 Alpine deaths caused by avalanches.
Experts warn even a single skier can now trigger slides. β„οΈβš οΈ #press

Meow you see me, meow you don't

Mercury and Venus in the evening sky, as seen from the mountains of southern New Mexico.

Mercury is slightly above center in the transition zone where the twilight sky colors are going from yellow to blue.

Venus is much lower, rather close to the distant trees and a bit right of center.

Venus appears fainter than Mercury because we are seeing Venus through much more atmosphere, which makes it dimmer, and it's in a brighter sky background.

Both of these planets are climbing higher day by day in the southwest. Mercury will stop climbing higher after about 2 - 3 weeks and then move back down. Venus will keep climbing for months.

The second image is annotated with short green lines that point to the location of these two 'evening stars'.

The photograph was taken with an APS-C sensor camera and a 135mm lens on a fixed tripod. This was about 30 minutes after sunset.

Neglecting the particular story this one lays out, I want to point out how well mathematically describing systems along with graphically showing the numbers can describe complex narratives.

Interesting, rapid transition off biofuel in USA imo:

The oldest preserved wooden staircase in Europe (1344-1343 BC) was discovered within Hallstatt salt mines in Upper Austria.

The staircase was part of a vertical shaft system used by Bronze Age miners to transport salt from subterranean galleries. Its location within salt-rich environment contributed to its exceptional preservation, as salt inhibited growth of wood-decaying fungi. The structure remained intact until landslide in 1000 BC buried it, effectively preserving it for over 3,000 years.

Ooh, let's see what's going in Hawaii today...

It appears an AT-AT is approaching the rebel base!
