LLMs are like slot machines, in that an incorrect answer (the slot machine eating your dollar) is unremarkable, while the LLM solving a problem (a jackpot) is amazing, and the latter stands out in your memory, causing you to overestimate the reliability of LLMs.

In my long, long, long experience with the anti-vaccination movement, I can promise you that you cannot use facts to change an opinion that is not based on facts. These people want to believe—that they know more, that scientists want to hide the benefits of crap like raw milk so they can “profit”…

I’m going to reiterate here that what may seem obvious to you is not obvious to wide swathes of the U.S. right now. We are in a situation where people curate the information they see and discard things they don’t want to see. There is a massive disinformation campaign being run by RFK Jr.

We can call people “stupid” all day long but as long as social media companies and the media itself provide platforms for frauds and present disinformation from one person as equivalent to information from 10 million scientists, large groups are going to believe false information.
