Things just seem so crazy today.
I mean, can you imagine say in the 1930s if the richest automobile executive in America was also a media owner who used his platform to encourage anti-Semitism and allied himself with a foreign dictator waging a territory-expansion war in Europe?
Another amazing match in the #worldcup . Brilliant effort by #Morocco - the first African team to make it to a WC semi final . Ronaldo , walks straight off the pitch by himself in tears, not congratulating the opposition or consoling the younger players or other team mates for whom it is the last chance too. Or thanking the fans. Understandable? Maybe. Graceless nonetheless

When I hear about the coup attempt in Germany & the desire of these violent extremists to insert Prince Heinrich XIII of Reuss as the leader after a planned execution of the German chancellor, it sounds ludicrous, laughable. But that's the thing: These people are deadly serious.

Because the plots of these anti-democratic extremists often seem so ludicrous, they can succeed because the public--& too many leaders--don't take them seriously enough. This tendency is how Trump got as far as he did.

The news just interrupted a discussion on a Virginia mass shooting that killed 6 to break the news of a shooting at a PA m school that injured 4.

I don’t even know how to feel anymore.

A lot of people are celebrating “getting back to decentralization.”

Not me.

Decentralized communities were full of all kinds of people who looked and thought like me. And was kinda toxic as a result.

Centralization let me meet amazing people with different backgrounds and experienced. I’m forever thankful for all of you I met on that site.

Yes it was also filled with hateful people and trolls so I get it.

I hope as we decentralize again we don’t create little bubbles of sameness again.

Trump back on Twitter seems to me to be proof of the adage you can’t step in the same river twice. TikTok is moving inexorably to take over the ephemeral social space from Twitter and Facebook et al and he’s not there. There is no third rail to electrify the popularity of a septuagenarian bigot this time round now. Time moves on. But the fact that an individual who tried to overturn democracy and incited domestic terrorism is both at large *and* published by a16z approved goons is *wild*

"What I’m finding most satisfying about Mastodon, and I’m seeing a lot of other journalists feel this, is that it actually forces you to ask and confront some of these questions and to make active choices. Even if Mastodon were to remain Twitter’s very tiny stepbrother, I would still like to be part of a Mastodon journalist community because I think we got lazy as a field, and we let Mark Zuckerberg, Jack Dorsey, and, god help us, Elon Musk decide..."
