Small batch pottery Queer owned 🩷🧡🤍 Pacific Northwest 🌲🍄
Continuing the Pacific Northwest theme with this six inch flower pot.
Creating these in the winter means I have to comb through my memories of Spring and Fall forest walks. When the forest is bright and alive with vibrant life.
Slugs in all shapes, color and sizes camouflaged among moss.
Fungi protruding from cracks in fallen logs or jutting out from disturbed soil.
Lichen, which is an organism formed through relationship of fungi and algae spread on branches like mold growing on an old loaf of bread left for too long.

The forest is my beloved. My most precious muse.

Buried in a corner of my studio is a graveyard of hideous pots l've ruined trying to find the right bark glaze. Even after testing on smaller tiles and thinking they're the one, they don't always scale up the way you imagine.

I found two glazes by mayco that work for what l need.
The bottom is Winter Wood glaze, which can just be brushed on and is ready to fire. The top is a manganese wash, which has to be brushed on and then sponged off. With all the crags and texture it's a real journey. RIP to all my sponges. But it's my favorite out of the two.

Shout out to my main gal Witches' Butter.
A fungus that grows year round, even in the coldest of winters and hot summers. You'll find them on dead branches or living trees popping out like brains between the bark. It doesn't have any flavor but is edible. The texture is the best part. Next time you're out and see some witches' butter making eyes at you, give it a good fingering 🫳🏼

I'm so happy to share the woodland pots collection with you all. It's been a long road of testing bark textures and glaze combinations (not to mention fixing my kiln in the middle of all that) but these really turned out so beautifully
